Long term care is affordable to everyone. Your income does not affect eligibility, and your previous year’s Notice of Assessment from the Canada Revenue Agency is required as proof of income. Capital assets, such as your home or car, are not factored into your fees. The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care sets the rates for all long-term care homes in Ontario. These rates are established once a year and cover a variety of services, such as nursing and personal care; three meals and snacks a day; therapeutic diets,P2dd1NG1 as needed; dietary supplements; assistive devices to encourage independence; on-site medical care provided by a physician who makes regular visits to the home; rehabilitation and restorative care services; OHIP based physiotherapy services; supplies, equipment, and devices necessary for the provision of medical, nursing and personal care; social and interactive programs; bedroom furnishings, including a bed, bedside table, TV stand, chair and closet; bedding and linen; as well as housekeeping and laundry services. If additional or optional services are required, such as cable TV, hair salon appointments or dentist appointments, vision care or specialized foot care, a fee is charged to the resident.
