Leisureworld Caregiving Centre St. George, which opened in 1972 is situated in the Toronto Annex, an established residential neighbourhood. This home’s convenient location offers easy access to public transit, parks, hospitals, retail shopping and services and the 238 residents here enjoy both the vibrancy of the community and the activities in the home. With both a younger and culturally diverse population – over 20 languages can be heard around the tables in the dining room – programs have been created to reflect a variety of interests. With suggestions and requests from residents new activities are always appearing on the calendar, like holding more events in the evenings and on weekends. Also added were activities like yoga, tai chi, and exotic pet therapy – with animals as different as a Russian wolfhound, a chinchilla, and a monitor lizard.
