Leisureworld Caregiving Centre O’Connor Gate is located just south of Eglinton Avenue and west of Victoria Park Avenue in Toronto. Offering private or shared accommodation, Leisureworld O’Connor Gate, which opened in 2001, is home to 158 residents. The needs of different cultural groups in the home are met by the provision of culturally specific programming. General activities include celebration of all major holidays, a Halloween ‘Haunted House’ and Christmas Tea Party. For residents with cognitive challenges there is a beautiful sensory stimulation room called “Jean’s Corner” in memory of one of the residents. Animals figure prominently in the home with a cat, a cockatiel, and a visiting therapy dog. The East York Meals on Wheels seniors are invited to a monthly Diner’s club to socialize with residents.
