Policy on Pricing
New rates are set annually based on changes in the payment entitlement for Old Age Security (OAS), the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), and the Guaranteed Annual Income Supplement (GAINS). These entitlements are set on April 1st each year and are indexed quarterly to reflect increases in the Consumer Price Index. Note: Rates are set by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. This year's increase in the Consumer Price Index has resulted in the following new accommodation rates:

The Comfort Allowance will increase effective November 1, 2011, from the current rate of $125/month to $128/month. If your annual net income is below $21,000, you may be eligible for a co-payment rate reduction for basic accommodation. Residents in preferred or private accommodation are not eligible for this co-payment rate reduction unless they meet the criteria for Exceptional Circumstances. To apply for a reduction or to maintain eligibility for a rate reduction if you are already receiving one, you must complete an Application for Reduction in the Long-Term Care Home Accommodation Fees, by July 31, 2009. For more information on co-payment rates or to apply for a rate reduction, please speak with the Director of Administration of your home.
