The Traditions of Durham Retirement Community in Oshawa is home to 140 residents, and currently has an opening for a Director of Wellness.  The Director of Wellness is accountable to the General Manager for the supervision of optimum care services based on legislative and Company standards, policies and procedures. The Director of Wellness must be an RPN in good standing, have leadership experience and have proven customer service skills that will support the core values and employee guiding principles, ensure resident safety, and have a positive approach to building teams and partnerships with community health professionals.
Resident Care
  • Monitor documentation and delivery of care services in accordance with College of Nurses standards of practice;
  • Adhere to all requirements for training and delivery of care services under the RH Act 2010;
  • Monitor the quality indicators and evaluate nursing and related services to evaluate quality of resident care;
  • Utilize all aspects of RHOSI (software) to assess care needs to determine corresponding care fees & staffing requirements;
  • Work as the RPN and assist with resident care as required;
  • Monitor all resident incidents and direct staff regarding interventions to prevent reoccurrence as applicable;
  • Responsible for recruitment, orientation, supervision and scheduling of Unregulated Care providers and RPN’s;
  • Work with all other departments to foster resident independence with appropriate supports in place.
Resident & Family Relations
  •  Participate in screening process for all new residents including home visits as required;
  • Communicate changes in care levels to ensure that families are kept informed of potential cost increases related to care services;
  • Communicate changes in care requirements and involves residents and families in development and approval of care plans;   
  • Monitor resident incidents / prepare families for higher levels of care/potential discharge;
  • Facilitate family interviews and problem solving in relations to all aspects of care services.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses in Ontario;
  • Community college graduate with medication certification;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in geriatrics, rehabilitation and/ or retirement living;
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge is required on the aging process, psycho-social geriatric issues, family;
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines as workload may fluctuate as admissions, resident needs and discharge occur;
  • Ongoing commitment to multi-disciplinary team work and demonstrated ability to work through collaboration, joint decision making and integrated strategies.
