As a valued member of the team, the Chauffeur demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with organization’s vision and mission.  The Chauffeur is responsible for the transportation of residents according to the established itinerary of the Resident Relations Manager.  They are also responsible for the safety of the residents and maintain the cleanliness of the bus. The Chauffeur may be called upon to assist the activities coordinator in his/her daily job routines.
RESPONSIBILITIES (But not limited to):
  • Accompanies and directs the residents during their activities outside of the residence.
  • Transports residents to scheduled places.
  • Observes the speed limits and road signs at all times.
  • Drives the bus with professionalism.
  • Informs passengers regarding schedules, prices, scheduled stops and any other instructions necessary.
  • Takes attendance of passengers in order to ensure that everyone is present and accounted for.
  • Ensures the maintenance of the bus such as filling the gas tank and windshield washer fluid, checking tire pressure, checking the oil and the cleanliness of the bus, both inside and out.
  • Informs the Environmental Services Manager of accidents, delays or mechanical problems so that the corrective measures are taken.
  • Assists residents when they are getting on or off the bus and when they cross the street when the bus is stopped to ensure their safety.
  • According to the established procedures directs passengers' during emergency evacuation procedures.
  • Assists, if required, the activities coordinator in their daily routine.
  • Carries out, if needed, all related tasks in order to ensure the continuity and the quality of the services.
  • Workers have several duties under the OHSA, as per Section 28.  A worker must:
  • Work in compliance with the Act and the Regulations.
  • Use or wear any personal protective equipment, devices or clothing required by the employer;
  • Report to the employer, Supervisor or General Manager any hazard, actual or potential, that may be dangerous to themselves, or another worker and any violation of the Act or the Regulations.
  • Not remove or make ineffective any protective device required by the Regulations or their employer;
  • Not engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough or boisterous conduct or use or operate any equipment, or work in any way that may endanger any worker.
  • Communicates in a professional manner any concerns regarding the home’s environment from residents, families, visitors and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Appropriate driving permit for a bus in the province of Ontario.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a driver.
  • Experience in customer service, an important asset
  • Drivers abstract may be required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
