JOB SUMMARY:
Leisureworld Caregiving Centre – Orillia is home to 160 residents and currently has an opening for a Casual Part-Time Nurse Manager.
 
The Nurse Manager is the most senior on-site manager, responsible for coverage of the home in the absence of other members of the home’s senior management team. This role includes taking lead for directing and managing staff of the home, meeting with families, addressing immediate resident care requirements, completing quality assurance assignments, ensuring staffing coverage and coordination of emergency response protocols in the absence of the other home managers.
 
As a valued member of the team, the Nurse Manager demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with organization’s vision and mission.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES (But not limited to):
  • Monitoring and evaluation of unit staff compliance with facility and service policies and procedures.
  • Liaising with other services in the facility.
  • Preparing written performance appraisals for all unit staff on assigned shift.
  • Serve on committees, which affect the service.
  • Discipline of staff according to facilities policies and procedures.
  • Participating in programs to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality of nursing services provided by the unit.
  • Leisureworld is a 24/7 Operation, flexibility to work a variety of shifts as required operationally.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Minimum of 3 years geriatric and management experience.
  • Sound nursing knowledge in geriatric care and in nursing administration.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation governing the long-term care sector, for example, Long Term Care Homes Act, Residents’ Bill of Rights, employment standards.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of current trends and concepts relative to professional nursing.
  • Ability to direct, instruct, and evaluate employees.
  • Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills.
EDUCATION:
  • Degree or diploma from an accredited university or college in Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Current BCLS certificate an asset.
  • Current Medication Administration Certificate, which meets the College of Nurses Standards of Practice, if applicable.
