JOB SUMMARY:
Leisureworld Caregiving Centre – Cheltenham is home to 170 residents and currently has an opening for a Permanent Part-Time Dietary Aide. The initial assignment is for 16 hours bi-weekly, subject to change based on the operational needs or under the discretion of the manager.
 
As a valued member of the team, the Dietary Aide demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with organization’s vision and mission.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES (But not limited to):
  • Preparing food in accordance with the regular and therapeutic menu, in accordance with the standardized recipes for the home.
  • Assisting in serving of meals to residents (by name of resident).
  • Preparing quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements as per recipes and production sheets.
  • Cleaning and maintaining the fridge /freezer, cleaning and maintaining all equipment after use.
  • Cleaning and maintaining work area(s) in a clean and sanitary state.
  • Following safe food handling practices.
  • Quality control of menu products – for example, tasting samples, labelling and keeping daily samples for testing for 7 days, monitor and discard samples as per policy.
  • Assists in catering to special functions when scheduled.
  • Takes and records food temperatures, and records the same in the food temperature logs. Follows up with corrective action if temperatures are not within ranges noted on temperature logs.
  • Assures all food items are labelled and dated in fridges and freezers, monitors and discards as per policy.
  • Supports the cleaning requirements and cleaning routines of the dietary services including, washing pots\pans, operating dish machine when needed/as schedule, cleaning and sanitizing work areas according the established schedule.
  • Assists in orientation of new dietary staff.
  • Assists in the home’s quality management/quality improvement program for dietary services.
  • Manages the kitchen on weekends and in the absence of Food Services Manager for the respective shift.
  • Attends in-service education programs and staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must maintain a current Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • Must be familiar with the correct procedure for service and handling of food.
  • Must be familiar with safe food handling techniques.
  • Ability to operate institutional cooking equipment, for example, dishwasher, conveyor toaster, and meat-slicer.
  • Able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with residents, staff and visitors.
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills.
 
EDUCATION:
  • Successful completion of a Food Service Worker training program at an established college as listed in the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a registered private career college in Ontario.
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in Food and Nutrition management or
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree in Food and Nutrition from an accredited university.
  • Must have High School diploma.
 
***NOTE: If a candidate does not have the required certification upon hire, the candidate must agree to enroll in the Food Handlers Certification Course or exam within 30 days of hire.
