JOB SUMMARY:
Leisureworld Caregiving Centre – Oxford is home to 80 residents and currently has an opening for a Permanent Full-Time Associate Director of Care. The initial assignment is for 75 hours bi-weekly, subject to change based on the operational needs or under the discretion of the manager.
 
The Associate Director of Care ensures that effective nursing services are carried out and by providing staff in the nursing department with education/in-services. The Associate Director of Care assists with Quality Assurance activities for the nursing department, including research projects and sharing/serving committees.
 
As a valued member of the team, the Associate Director of Care demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality care in accordance with organization’s vision and mission.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES (But not limited to):
  • Responsible for setting standards of resident care for all nursing units.
  • Ensures and promotes the provision of resident centered care and services to meet the needs of the resident.
  • Ensure that resident and family needs are addressed and any concerns are handled and brought to the attention of the DOC.
  • Assists with the investigation and follow through of resident, family or staff concerns.
  • Supports opportunities for the resident/family participation in decisions that affect the resident’s rights and lifestyle.
  • Use quality tools to assist in determining root cause of issues and subsequent plans of improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in recruitment, development, evaluation, discipline and termination of nursing staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate that nursing unit staff are compliant with Leisureworld’s policies and procedures and Ministry standards.
  • Provide continuing education programs to registered and non-registered staff on a monthly basis.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to nursing practice and infection control.
  • Assumes responsibility for the nursing service in the absence of the Director of Care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3 years experience in clinical nursing in a geriatric, long-term care, rehabilitation or chronic care setting. 
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive management/leadership experience.
  • Considerable experience in supervising or directing registered and unregulated staff in a long term care environment.
  • Sound knowledge of Ministry of Health and Long Term Care program standards and ability to ensure compliance with these standards.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal required.
  • Excellent decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated team building and mentorship experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to learning and continuous quality improvement.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships and work productively in a team environment.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Must have effective verbal and written English communication skills.
 
EDUCATION:
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Degree or diploma from an accredited university or college as a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Current BCLS certification.
