Who We Are
Founded in 1972, Leisureworld Senior Care Corporation is the third largest licensed long-term care (LTC) provider in Ontario. The Company owns and operates 26 LTC homes, representing approximately 4,314 beds across Ontario, Canada. It also owns and operates three retirement homes and one independent living home. Leisureworld subsidiaries include: Preferred Health Care Services, an accredited provider of professional nursing and personal support services and Ontario Long Term Care, a provider of purchasing services, dietary, social work, and other regulated health professional services.
History
1972
Herman Grad purchases Spencer House, a 37-bed retirement home, and with reconstruction, also provided long-term care
1981
Herman Grad purchases Leisureworld Inc., which includes three long-term care homes in Scarborough, North Bay and St. George Street in downtown Toronto
1983
Leisureworld acquires Barrie location
1986
Leisureworld acquires Brantford location
1992
Leisureworld acquires Creedan Valley in Creemore
1996
Leisureworld acquires Gravenhurst
2000
Leisureworld constructs five new homes – Elmira, O’Connor Court, O’Connor Gate, Etobicoke and Lawrence
2003
Leisureworld constructs five more homes in one year – Brampton Woods, Brampton Meadows, Norfinch, Ellesmere and Richmond Hill
2004
Leisureworld constructs Vaughan location
2005
Herman Grad sells Leisureworld to the Macquarie Group, one of the largest global investors and managers of infrastructure assets.
2006
Leisureworld constructs Spencer House home
2008
Leisureworld acquires seven more homes in primarily the GTA (Altamont, Mississauga, Streetsville, Cheltenham, Oxford, Rockcliffe and Tullamore) and becomes the third largest owner and operator of long term care homes in Ontario
2010
Leisureworld files with securities regulators in Canada to sell shares in its company to investors in an initial public offering (IPO), subject to approval by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Leisureworld becomes a separate, stand-alone public company with shares listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and owned by different institutional and individual shareholders
2011
Leisureworld expands its retirement portfolio by acquiring two best-in-class retirement residences in Ontario -
The Royale Kanata and The Royale Kingston
2012
Leisureworld celebrates its 40th Anniversary
